He does the show, and it's fairly decent, and the ratings are fair, but he's not well known 5. He had to be let go from the station due to budget cuts and the station went out of business a few weeks later 6. He struggles to find work; he has a tape the manager gave him of his best material to give to other program directors at other stations 7. Hes had doors slammed in his face; rejected by stations; couldnt find work 8. He spins records at parties, diners on the side 9. He gets a job at 2nd station; he's there for a year; he's been fired after a dispute with PD 10. He deejays at club; Buck Stephens is impressed by his talent and gives him a job offer at rock station. The DJ took it 11. The DJ is a little uncomfortable with the station, since he's the only black.. 12. He's there for 4 years...and gets job offer at black station (where he works now) 13. His popular increased big...people love him and his talent Well is that good? Or still needs work. moreOpen Question: Blacks, have Obama really addressed the economy?
I asked blacks because I am black and because blacks tend to look the other way when it comes to Obama. I must say that it is extremely hard to say anything negative against him when FOX and some whites are constantly saying racist things simply because he is non white. Besides from that and on behalf of republicans who are saying that he is not doing enough for the economy, they are 100% correct! Put it simply, Obama snowballed us. He simply wanted the White House, and he got it. Do you remember "not business in D.C. as usual?" Do your remember "Yes we can and Change we can depend in?" Almost a trillion dollars were foolishly given out to governors, mayors and other politicians. None of the money has created any jobs. How can almost a trillion dollars not create thousands of jobs? What really happened is that Obama played into the hands of greedy politicians who convinced him that given each State billions of dollars would jump start the economy. This plan was spearheaded by politicians for politicians. A good infrastructure sustains SOME jobs but does not necessarily create them. It creats jobs for illegals. Illegals are the only ones who are guaranteed work. Who else work on highways and buildings? For the most part, the money is lining the pockets of "the powers that be." He should have gotten together with grassroot community leaders and economists. They would have told him to start up small businesses, for this is what sustains all the economies of the world. Not only that, all the money would have been paid back as the businesses became more successful. They also would have told him to make certain grant related programs that offer supportive services stay in business. These agencies help millions find employment and housing each year. Well, it did not happen. The truth is, Obama is acting like a superstar. He is bouncing around so fast even his aides do not know where he is going next. To add salt to our wounds, he decided that we need 50 million more illegal aliens to take what little monies we do have. He is simply all over the place. He has done much for hispanics but absolutely nothing for others. I really hope he looks beyond his well fed daughters and see other folk daughters who are worried about mom's and dad's unemployment. Say what you will, Obama is being a being a star. He wants to make sure the hispanics vote for him. He knows that he can continue blow smoke up blacks' rear ends and get all the votes he needs. Well, not from this negro!! Like most, he did get my vote the first time. Jesse Jackson ( who I do not care for) is right concerning Obama. He is taken the black community for granted. I will be so glad when we finally say enough!! Hopefully, he is a one term wonder. moreOpen Question: Are there any small gold mining companies that need working capital and modern equipment to do business with?
The founder of this very unique program will provide modern gold mining equipment as well as working capital to any small gold mining company worldwide at no cost IF you are willing to meet very specific guidelines. This is a first of it's kind program and serious inquirers need only contact me. moreOpen Question: Does the Tower of Babel story work as political metaphor, and make sense of US politics today?
What I'm getting at is the reason that God provides for giving everyone a different language at Babel. I believe He is quoted in Genesis as saying that He will sow confusion that human beings will not ever complete the tower, ascend to heaven, and challenge God's pre-eminence. Today most Christians, atheists, Jews & Muslims in R&S make very little reference to the Tower of Babel story; we all fight about other things in here. But politically and economically, aren't we a little like the people in the Tower of Babel story? We face a world that's in a severe economic recession, and in the US the unemployment rate is at 9.5 percent and rising. Millions of people in the US are losing their houses; many millions more are still without affordable health insurance. Meanwhile the big Wall Street banks have accepted enormous financial bailouts from the government, and yet they're still not making easy credit available to individual consumers and small business owners who need it. It's also unclear, so far, that the US government will be able to overcome the resistance of the big oil & coal companies and enact a good program to curb global climate change. So all Americans - religious believers and atheists alike -- face some really important political challenges and political and economic problems, and the futures of our children and grandschildren depend on meeting and solving those problems well. But we are scattered in confusion -- so just because of speaking many different languages, but because we belong to dozens of different religious denominations -- or in some cases to no religious faith at all. The unemployment rates keep rising, and the banks keep getting money from the government without providing credit to people who need it -- and we're permanently divided & impotent because of our disagreements over religion. Is this a new Babel, perhaps? Are there "principalities and powers" who want to keep us perpetually divided over religion and anti-religion, so that we never challenge the power of the economic & political elites?Sorry; there are some confusing typos in this question; my bad. What I meant to say is that we are divided -- NOT just because we speak different languages, but also because we adhere to possibly dozens of different religious traditions, and some anti-religious traditions as well. As the people at Babel failed to complete their tower because of a confusion of languages, so, also, we in the USA today (and around the world) are failing to unite to solve common problems, at least partly because we embrace a confusion of different religious faiths. Are we getting fooled by a powerful economic and political elite into division and powerlessness, based on religion -- just as the people at Babel were fooled by God into a similar kind of powerlessness, this one arising from different languages? moreOpen Question: What do you think Salinas residents organize with others and demand comprehensive immigration reform?
On Wednesday evening, Salinas resident Juana Rojas said she had an important job to do After getting off work, Rojas got ready and went to church not to pray but to organize with others and demand comprehensive immigration reform. "We are tired of waiting," the farmworker said in Spanish. "I'm a citizen now and [politicians] need my vote. We have to mobilize by any means." Rojas said she has family members who have been separated because of what she calls "a broken immigration system." She was one of the hundreds of farmworkers and community members from Salinas and around Monterey County who gathered at St. Mary of the Nativity church in east Salinas to ask U.S. Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, to push for immigration reform in Washington, D.C. "My heart is with the people who better this county with their labor," Farr told the audience in Spanish. "I need an army of people. ... We are changing this country to fulfill the dreams for everyone and not just a small group. I'll be your voice in Washington." Wednesday's community meeting in Salinas followed action by the Obama administration which launched investigations of hundreds of businesses around the country as part of its strategy to focus immigration enforcement on employers who hire illegal workers. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has begun notifying businesses of plans to audit their I-9 forms ' employment eligibility documents that employers fill out for every worker ' the agency told members of Congress in an e-mail Wednesday. National push for reform The president has said immigration reform could be done by the end of the year or early next year. Obama has urged Americans to hold community forums to discuss issues such as immigration reform and health care and to forward their ideas for solutions to his adminstration. His request was answered locally by the Salinas Valley Coalition for Immigration Reform, formed by the United Farm Workers Union and Monterey County Supervisors Simon Salinas and Fernando Armenta. The group, which organized Wednesday's forum, is pushing for a single piece of legislation that would include legalization for undocumented workers, family reunification and a guest worker program. The coalition was founded after U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez visited Salinas last month as part of his nationwide "Family Unity" tour highlighting how the nation's immigration system negatively affects families. At Wednesday's forum, Salinas-area residents shared personal experiences involving immigration issues. One speaker encouraged all legal residents to become U.S. citizens and vote. Rojas said that even though Obama hasn't been aggressive about immigration reform, she remains hopeful. "We have to be positive about what the president promised," she said. "But if nothing happens, we must do something." •The Associated Press contributed to this report. http://thecalifornian.com/article/20090702/NEWS01/907020324/1002/Salinas-residents-say-they-are-tired-of-waiting-for-immigration-reform moreOpen Question: Starting a small web design & development company?
Hi, basically I've been working on personal web sites for over 3 1/2 years now, done some freelance work. I know several programming languages PHP, MySQL, (x)HTML, CSS and a few others, I'm also reasonably good at design. Now, few problems one i'm only 16, so basically where do i start? I've just left school(completed gcses), I can do most work requests, such as cms creation, web page design and so on, I took a business studies gcse, awaiting the results, i viewed the companies house website, which it sais the age requirement to be a director/company owner is 16, therefore actual registering the company isn't a problem i don't think. I'll be able to take the work on myself, i'll offer services which i know i can do. few questions: Where do i start? Am i being to ambitious on starting my own business? Where shall i target potential clients? -- I've looked at many local web development companies, however they all look a little shabby, and i personally believe i could do a better job, and include better web services, so shall i do it local? thanks in advance! moreOpen Question: How do I make 2 dimensional games with a "graphics library"?
Well, I'm trying to make a game. First, my friend and I looked up stuff online; we came up with Game Maker, but I have come to discover that it's really limited: and that it has it's own programming language! Well, once I heard that if I wanted to make anything I had to learn programming, I decided to learn C++. I also chose a two year course in highschool (I'm going to HS for my first year at the end of the summer) that covers C++ programming. (Was this a bad choice?) Right now I'm having trouble with if and else statements, but...that's beside the point. :) Anyway, I've decided that me and my friend are going to split the work in two and learn how to program. I'm starting out with C++, he's starting out with Visual Basic. (Again, are these good choices if we want to go into the game designing business???) Well, I don't see how I'm going to incorporate this stuff into actual game making. Is there a website I can go to for free tutorials on how to make games with C++ AFTER you already know most of it? And how do I use a "Graphics Library"? Also, would GML (Game Maker Language, you know) or VB be worth it to learn instead of C++? I'd heard that C++ was used alot and was a good idea, but...would VB be better? And how hard is it to learn? Is it better for making small, two-dimensional, SNES-era, Final Fantasy-themed games than C++ would be once I knew alot of it? Also, how long should I expect to have to wait before I know enough about C++ to start on this kind of a game? What college should I go to for this, and what kinds of classes should I take? Oh lord, is there a site I could go to for career help??? Anyway, I don't think Game Maker Language would be worth it to learn (I don't think it's really capable of doing full-sized games like I'm thinking of) and I doubt that companies use it to make games; I *think* I just might be offered a better job over someone who had "knows GML" on their resume as opposed to mine, which said "knows C++." :) One last thing: I've heard that VB is strictly Microsoft/Windows-related. Is that the case? If you could direct me somewhere different for career help (especially with graphics designing and game programming, or even just programming in general, I suppose), and somewhere that gave me info on the pros and cons on C++ and VB, and also somewhere that taught how to make games USING one of those programming languages, and how to do all that "Graphics Library" stuff...well, that'd be great. :) Thanks alot to everyone here, I hope I can get this answered. I've asked few questions about this before and no go... moreOpen Question: Is there a way to avoid installing Windows XP on each computer manuall?
I work for a small business that doesn't have IT staff, I'm the only one who currently takes care of the basic IT stuff. Every time somebody's computer crashes I have to reinstall windows from scratch. I always do a clean installation by following these steps: 1) I delete the partition and create a new one to make sure everything gets deleted 2) I format the Hard Drive 3) Install WIndows XP from the CD 4) Install all updates and other common programs we all use I just got finished doing all this and before the user starts using his computer, I'd like to be able to create an image of this hard drive in order to be able to use it in the future on someone elses computer. Like if a computer crashes I want to have an image of this HD and use it whenever I need to. This would save me soooo much time. I have 3 more computers to go now and I would really appreciate if someone has a solution I could use. Thanks! moreOpen Question: Should each state be in charge of their own health care?
Mit Romney enacted a state wide health care program that takes a small percent of their state income. His state runs it efficiently and effectively because he is a smart business man and his people are rewarded from this. Under Fed. Health Care YOUR STATE be responsible for poorly ran States (a hole in the bucket that may never get plugged) California will never be responsible for their poor budgeting and poor business actions. Your State will be RESPONSIBLE for poorly ran States! Would you believe that the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES actually supports State ran health care and is STRONGLY against Fed. Govt. Ran health care? Would you like to dump billions from your state into border states with 30 million illegals and poorly ran states? California won't even need to worry about red tape, budgets or efficiency because the Fed. will cover them aka YOU! Please post your opposing thoughts if they make sense. FYI: Don't call me a Rep, I'm a Libertarian. The Constitution of the United States clearly reads that this power is to go to the States, not the Federal Govt. This is not about being a Democrat or a Republican or a Libertarian, its about being an American. The Federal Govt. has too much red tape, is slow, not efficient and should not be in charge of our health care.Voice of reason, those poor people will hold their state Responisble of their actions. They will point at the next state and say "They are doing fine, why can't we?" or "Your fired!"I'm not talking about states taking over the private insurance, just being a player since each state has a health care department for their welfare people anyway. moreOpen Question: Need help convincing my mom to let me follow my passion and dream?
Ok. My name is Andre and I love business. When I grow up I want to become an entrepreneur. The man that motivates and inspires me everyday is Russell Simmons. My mother wont accept the idea that that is what I want to do. You see, a while back (about ten years ago) when I was five I had this dream of becoming a baseball player. But now that I have grown and matured my aspirations have changed. But she hasnt. I tell her that I still want to play, but I do not want to do anything extra (such as baseball camps) because that would get in the way of valuable mentorship programs that I can get into for entrepreneurship. But she insists that I go to one in a couple of weeks. I dont want to go, because I could spend that time in Louisiana with my dad, (who currently owns a small business) and my dad and I could talk and I could soak up valuable info. But she just wont listen and she feels that I should stick with baseball and try to make it in the big leagues. I find baseball fun, but I just dont have that same passion and drive that I have for business. Please Help! moreResolved Question: Tenant built bedroom in apartment's dining room?
I am having a very uncommon (at least it has been uncommon for me) problem with one of my tenants. I live in my apartment building with my husband. A few months ago whenever we would leave and come back a tenant (who is not the one the question is about but complains about EVERYTHING) would tell me how the tenant in the unit by mine was pounding the whole time I was gone and how loud the pounding was. I confronted the issue with the tenant. They had received permission to paint most of the rooms. They told me that the pounding was simply them rehanging shelves and pictures etc. I had no reason to disbelieve them. I saw no evidence of anything else in the unit so I told the other tenant that really they were in no violation of their lease (she really shouldn't have been able to hear that much anyways my unit is between the two of them) As far as them pounding when I was not home they said that they did that as to not disturb me (I own a business and often work from home). Recently the tenant was put onto HUD. There are special programs in our county for certain types of people. The tenant is able to receive the help of these special programs. On the HUD paper when I received it to sign the unit was marked as a 3 bdroom. It is only a 2 bedroom. I questioned the tenant why it was already filled in and why was it marked as a 3? She stated that her caseworker did it bc she used the dining room as a bedroom thus making it a 3 bedroom. (I do not approve of this the tenant was here last fall when my husband and I took over the building and we had no reason to get rid of her) Recently, her 15 yr old daughter (who likes to tell anyone everything) let it slip that they have a 4 bdrm unit. I told her no it was 2 bdrooms. She stated no that it was now a 4 bdroom unit bc she sleeps in the utility room (it is very small she stated she sleeps on a cot . I know that there can be no other room. The room was basically big enough for a washer and dryer then it had some shelves and drawers. Considering the tenant has a washer the cot would basically take up all the free space) She then proceeded to tell me that since her mom and her mom's bf built the walls around the dining room it was now a bd room. (basically it is a room in a room) It is only the mother bf and her 2 children I don't understand y they would need a 4 bdroom. I am not quite sure how to approach the situation. I do plan to call HUD tomorrow. But I am baffled at her literally building a bedroom. I am so scared to see it. It was recently remodeled. This was a mansion built in the 1900's. The tenant has a part built on in 1940. It has amazing details and is beautiful!! (Advice on staying professional through this would be greatly appreciated!)I am legally can be let into the apartment at any time I wish for emergencies otherwise I must give 24 hrs notice. Which they have received. I just learned this information and am still trying to wrap my head around it. I believe the tenant told HUD the apartment was a 3 bdroom to receive more $. I plan to talk to them to see if they consider it a 2 or 3 bdroom since it is the dining room being used a bedroom. Now that I think back the pounding and everything was shortly before HUD's inspection (which I now know was not them rehanging everything it was them building a bedroom!) moreVoting Question: What kind of software needed by small company (less than 10 people or less than $10.000 income a month)?
I planning to write cheap or open source program to help small business manage their business better. Maybe some generals software that are used by major industries(e.g: Accounting). Is there any free study case available. I cannot make my own, because my time limitation. Thank you. moreVoting Question: How do I get software development projects?
I'm a software developer, wants to support myself by working on programming projects while focusing on building my dream business. But how do I get my foot in the door on (not "need a small website") software projects without really having a network of connections? moreResolved Question: Can Anybody Find Any Stimulus in the Stimulus Bill as implemented thus Far?
So far, the money seems to be going to all the places that a community organizer would like to see it go. It's going to shore up the failing budgets of state governments with their plethora of social servcies agencies that sort of operate behind the scene using 10 times more employees than they need to do things that absurdly dysfunctional and really just symbolic more than they are efficacious in helping anybody. It's a money pit. In my state (Maryland) there are about 600 of these agencies, and they do all manner of social services, getting free stuff for the poorest of the poor, delivering it to them, getting them to use it, and chronicling the whole process down to the minutest detail. It's really just people grooming each other on the public dole. Instead, I suggested in four six page letters to the SBA that money be provided to winners to help start small businesses and hire new employees. Everybody at SBA thought this was a great idea. If the loans were made for $25,000 each a mere $100 B would go a long long way -- lots of new small businesses in every state run by winners, recent graduates valedictorians, merit scholars, beta gamma sigmas, etc. The old community development mantra of helping Acorn and the poorest of the poor, and stuffing the money into holes in state budgets to prevent deficits is sort of just the opposite of stimulation. It's more like emulation of every failed policy that has gone before, or ratification of every rathole of cash wasting in the various state budgets. What do you think, and please tell me why? Does the Stimulus Bill as if has been implemented so far seem stimulative to you? Or is it more like the TARP which just stuffed money into dysfunctional banks, or the TALF which just stuffed money into toxic mortgage securities. Are STIM, TARP, and TALF the giving away of every asset US taxpayers could hope to have in exchange for absolutely nothing, nada, zip, well, except the Banker get to keep paying themselves 7 figures per year, and the toxic mortgage secyritizers get off the hook for their bad conduct, and now with STIM the failed governors all get bailed out for their people grooming people programs which are ludicrously dysfunctional (don't want to be mean about it, but ludicrous says it right). Do you agrre or disagree? And please tell me why. Please do not include statements or idea about how the rest of the Stimulus Bill may be spent in the future -- such statements are 100% speculative -- let's just deal with what we know -- which is what has actually happened so far. Knowledge is Power. Virtue is Knowledge. Therefore Virtue is Power. The lottery is not as bad as what we have now, which is just divvying the money up between the bankers, the bureaucrats and the Governors, but it's bad because it's not rationally targeted toward creating an stimulus outcome. A good stimulus package must produce a strong stimulus, and do so with maximum bang for the buck. Therefore giving the money to random people, is better than giving it to crooks and polls (I repeat myself), but it's not better than giving it out as SBA loans to budding small businesses owned and run by top graduates from colleges and business schools. They would burn through the money fast, hire some people, and possibly pay all or some of it back. My calculations indicate a 25% default rate on loans of $25,000 made to 10 million small businesses, so that $250 Billion well spent (at least compared to TARP and TALF).If $100 Billion were used to make SBA micro-loans to highly qualified business graduates (with high GPA's and majors in marketing, management, design, operations, accounting, quality control, etc) the default rate would be about 25%. The money could be recycled at least four times, so you get $400 Billion worth of stimulus impact for your $100 Billion worth of bucks put in. New businesses 1) Hire new employees 2) create new products, sometimes whole industries, sometimes whole export markets and 3) spend their working capital pretty fast on supllies, services, payroll, taxes, etc. So the money is staying in the USA and the multiplier effect is huge. The only reason the SBA has not done this is because a new Administrator has not yet been confirmed. The Agency has been around since 1953 -- but today when they are most needed -- AWOL! The TARP is a Trillion gone for nothing. The TALF is a Trillion gone for nothing. The STIM looks like another Trillion that will go for nothing. Pity. moreVoting Question: How do I develop a program written in Microsoft Access into a full-fledged program?
I have a database with quite a lot of forms and VBA code that I wrote for my small business. I would like to develop it further into a standalone POS program with CRM, Accounting and Marketing features. I am currently on a sabbatical in Shanghai, China. Can I advantageously do that here, or should I go back to the US? My program uses a third party driver to communicate with Quickbooks, which would be nice to retain in the standalone program. moreVoting Question: How do i deal with my Boss that's trying to fire me? Help!?
Today it was a typical day until my boss decided to unplug my computer from the network so his son could surf the web. I problem started when I lost all the work I was doing for that last 2hrs and not knowing I was disconnected from server the program which is dependent on server crashed . I was a little upset so I asked my Boss why didn't you tell me I was unplugged? no answer. I send why do I always have to apologize but you never do? I went on about my business trying come up with a solution to the work lost. My boss comes up to me and tells me "If you leave early your fired". I said, send me home then. He told me to pack your stuff up and leave. I worked my ass off there for 12yrs. The owner of the company wants me to come back tomorrow and talk about what happened. What should I say? At first I thought the boss was over reacting but now that I think but how it went down I think it was on purpose. I need job and don't want to leave, I can't trust my Boss anymore it would be very hard to work with him, the company is small so no chance for transfer. I kind of think they want me to come back to talk so they can create a impossible situation something I can't accept and make it look like I quite. http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul339.html As a medical doctor, I’ve seen first-hand how bureaucratic red tape interferes with the doctor-patient relationship and drives costs higher. The current system of third-party payers takes decision-making away from doctors, leaving patients feeling rushed and worsening the quality of care. Yet health insurance premiums and drug costs keep rising. Clearly a new approach is needed. Congress needs to craft innovative legislation that makes health care more affordable without raising taxes or increasing the deficit. It also needs to repeal bad laws that keep health care costs higher than necessary. We should remember that HMOs did not arise because of free-market demand, but rather because of government mandates. The HMO Act of 1973 requires all but the smallest employers to offer their employees HMO coverage, and the tax code allows businesses – but not individuals – to deduct the cost of health insurance premiums. The result is the illogical coupling of employment and health insurance, which often leaves the unemployed without needed catastrophic coverage. While many in Congress are happy to criticize HMOs today, the public never hears how the present system was imposed upon the American people by federal law. As usual, government intervention in the private market failed to deliver the promised benefits and caused unintended consequences, but Congress never blames itself for the problems created by bad laws. Instead, we are told more government – in the form of “universal coverage” – is the answer. But government already is involved in roughly two-thirds of all health care spending, through Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs. For decades, the U.S. healthcare system was the envy of the entire world. Not coincidentally, there was far less government involvement in medicine during this time. America had the finest doctors and hospitals, patients enjoyed high-quality, affordable medical care, and thousands of private charities provided health services for the poor. Doctors focused on treating patients, without the red tape and threat of lawsuits that plague the profession today. Most Americans paid cash for basic services, and had insurance only for major illnesses and accidents. This meant both doctors and patients had an incentive to keep costs down, as the patient was directly responsible for payment, rather than an HMO or government program. The lesson is clear: when government and other third parties get involved, health care costs spiral. The answer is not a system of outright socialized medicine, but rather a system that encourages everyone – doctors, hospitals, patients, and drug companies – to keep costs down. As long as “somebody else” is paying the bill, the bill will be too high.Erich M, the solution is to get the government out of healthcare. It was fine before congress forced medicare, medicaid, and HMOs down our throats. moreResolved Question: Extra curricular activities that relate to business?

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2009/06/24/2009-06-24_how_health_care_reforms_will_mess_with_your_coverage.html *Does the bill require you to have health insurance?* Yes. There is a lot of Washington double-talk in the bill - for example, it states, "No individual shall be compelled to enroll in a 'qualified' health plan" (sec. 3101). But if you file a tax return and fail to attach proof of your qualifying health plan, the IRS, in coordination with the expanded federal office on electronic medical records and a new state bureaucracy called a Gateway, will find you, notify you of your default and fine you (sec. 59). How big a fine? That's left up to the secretary of health and human services, but it will be big enough to ". . . accomplish the goal of enhancing participation." Of course, people on Medicare, Medicaid and other government programs are exempt. But the outrage is that members of Congress are exempting themselves (sec. 3116). *What is a "qualified" health plan?* The bill doesn't detail what this term means, but the language suggests you will be limited to a managed-care-style plan. Patients will have their care coordinated in a "medical home" - this decade's term for your primary care provider - and will not be allowed to see a specialist or get a test whenever they want to. Their care will be "coordinated." Doctors will be paid with "incentives" or hit with penalties to encourage cost-effective care. One such method is capitation, which means doctors get paid a flat fee per month per patient. With capitation, the fewer tests and referrals you're allowed, the more your doctor makes (sec. 2707). *How much will a "qualified" plan cost?* There are no prices in the bill, but it does make clear that there will be sliding-scale subsidies for individuals buying plans and temporary subsidies for small businesses covering workers. The bill says a family of four with a household income of $110,250 will not have to lay out more than 10% of its modified adjusted gross income (sec. 3111). Ten percent is a lot, but you might have to pay even more. Senators are looking for ways to trim costs, including allowing only families in lower-income groups to get subsidies. *Will this plan affect you if you get your health insurance from a large company?* Yes. The bill leaves blank precisely what employers' obligations will be (sec. 163), but you will need to prove that you are enrolled in a "qualified" plan. Negotiations in the coming days will determine whether your employer must contribute to the cost of that plan and what the tax treatment will be. *What about the "public plan" everyone is discussing?* The bill mentions that there will be a public plan, but offers no details (sec. 3101 and 3116). The importance of the public plan has been exaggerated. Its opponents warn that the public option will drive out private insurance, but that will happen anyway. The bill gives the health and human services secretary power to limit profit margins, which makes it iffy how long insurance companies will be able to survive (sec. 2704). That's another reason President Obama's promise yesterday that he's "not going to mess" with your plan is unconvincing. No one likes insurance companies, but the indications are that faceless bureaucrats in Washington will be even stingier when it comes to doling out your medical care. moreResolved Question: Could you check my English C.V.?

I told my boss I would design him a web page because I wanted to learn web design and he wanted a web page. I work 4 hrs a day in exchange for a place to stay, but this work is generally gardening outside. Somehow there was a miscommunication - he can't pay me for extra hours I spend on the web page and he needs me to work outside most of the time. Leaving me about 1 hr a day to work on his website. I am kind of a newbie at the whole web design game - I am learning as I go. But I have a working knowledge of basic programing & coding and, in my opinion, a good eye for web design. So it might take me a while to read through the tutorials on html or css, but what I produce is high quality. So at first, I said I wanted to do the design thinking it would count as my work hours. I put in 6 or so hours a day to compensate for my inexperience. But then he tells me I have to work mostly outside and since he saw how hard a time I was having maybe I could count 1 hr of work on the site per day. I spend like 5. So anyways, I show him my first design that was heavily based on a template thinking we could be done with it. But then he rips me a new one, "ah the navigation should be over here" "oh this color is ugly" "your website caused my computer to completely crash" (I don't believe that one.) So taking all this criticism back to my workstation, I scrapped everything and started from scratch (when I still thought this counted as work! ha, just kidding!). I spent about 7-10 hours on the new design (once again, a lot of this is learning time too!). I show it to him, and he pretty much tells me to go back to the other one that he had had so many problems with. So now I am ready to just quit! Or give him the one I have right now. Gah, why should I have to make it your way if I am doing it for free? Now that the full situation is explained I want some input from people who design small business web pages like this (it's about 7-8 pages - whenever he makes up his damn mind) and I'm going to integrate a Wordpress blog into the design when I finalize it. So if you were given this project and had to redo it several times because you have "bad" taste, how much would you charge your client? I just want an accurate answer so I can know weather it's worth it to ask for money, or quit doing it, or what?! Opinions welcome too, please and thank you :) moreResolved Question: What the government can do to help small business that are in trouble?

I ordered a free cd and paid the postage of $1.97, and was assured that I wouldn't be charged a fee for joining the program until I checked out the cd and actually made money from it. Lo and behold, they fraudulently stole $72.21 from my bank account and I haven't even opened the package yet! I was charged by "Searchquest" and checked them out, where I discovered a complaint board filled with complaints by people for the same thing that happened to me, including a grandmother on a small pension. If this has happened to you, call 1-866-951-1406 and tell them you want your money back. When they ask you if you authorized payment for the $1.97 "postage", tell them "NO". You will get a confirmation number, and make sure you get the Operator Code of the person you're speaking with. They told me it would take 5 to 10 business days to have the money put back into my bank account. I really can't believe that Google is so bad off that they have to steal money from the working class. Screw them. Personally, I will never log onto Google for anything again, and I plan on posting this warning on every single website I visit that has a message board. moreResolved Question: Will conservatives now quit with this "liberal" media conspiracy nonsense?
now that gallup polls (a bias liberal source according to Y/A conservatives) show that 40% of Americans consider themselves conservative and 35% considerthemselves politically moderate. If 75% of Americans are either conservative or moderate there is absolutely no way a liberal media could exist because no would watch, free market forces would prevail and the networks would be forced to restructure their programming or go off the air. According to conservatives CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN, and most and magazines newspapers like TIME and NEWSWEEK and are all controlled by the liberal media. This of course is ridiculous because ABC is owned by Disney a notoriously conservative company. Isn't the real reason conservatives have invented this whole "liberal" media conspiracy because they want all news channels to be as conservative as FOX news and CBN??? All the media outlets from which most Americans get their news are corporate owned and progressives and activists on the left have always been extremely critical of corporations. Why would the CEO's and conservative business shoot themselves in the foot by allowing their news programs to have a media bias especially when only 21% of Americans consider themselves liberal? It doesn't make sense, they would be killing their profit margin and probably even losing money by focusing on such a small base. As a liberal I'm very disheartened by the Gallup poll but maybe it will at least expose the whole media bias conspiracy argument for the bull that it is.great argument William H. C.B.--notice how i did not mention MSNBC because of Olbermann, Maddow and Matthews, but they did have Imus who is very conservative and Scarboroughi knew you guys would bring up Disney and gay pride. Disney's stance on gay issues is their only serious deviation from the conservative agenda. Probably a lot of Log Cabin Republicans working over there."I admit it, the liberal media were never that powerful, and the whole thing was often used as an excuse by conservatives for conservative failures." -Bill Kristol, influential Republican/neoconservative publicist Rich Bond, then chair of the Republican Party, complained during the 1992 election, "I think we know who the media want to win this election--and I don't think it's George Bush." The very same Rich Bond, however, also noted during the very same election, "There is some strategy to it [bashing the 'liberal' media].... If you watch any great coach, what they try to do is 'work the refs.' Maybe the ref will cut you a little slack on the next one." That the media were biased against the Reagan Administration is an article of faith among Republicans. Yet James Baker, perhaps the most media-savvy of them, owned up to the fact that any such complaint was decidedly misplaced. "There were days and times and events we might have had some complaints [but] on balance I don moreVoting Question: Why do some neo-cons oppose such a good health care plan, despite Obama's call to fix health care ASAP?
The plan has proposals to improve affordability and lower prices, at little cost to the taxpayers. One proposal is to give families who purchase their own insurance a tax benefit similar to the one companies get for providing health benefits. Another proposal is to pass medical liability reforms that will reduce costly junk lawsuits. Still another would allow small businesses to team up to buy insurance at a group discount. They also want to allow families to save money tax-free for a wide range of health expenses and permit children to stay on their parents' policies until age 25. Under the proposals, Medicaid beneficiaries would get the flexibility to choose private coverage, rather than being locked into a government-run program. Is also calling for stepping up efforts to detect and punish Medicare and Medicaid fraud, which costs an estimated $60 billion a year. moreVoting Question: What is a good free and simple accounting program?

My mother came to America from Germany right after World War I and saw all of this happening as a young girl. She told her seven children exactly what you are about to read. -- Lil HYMN TO HITLER Posted by: Lori Kalner on Wednesday, October 01, 2008 In Germany, when Hitler came to power it was a time of terrible financial depression. Money was worth nothing. In Germany, people lost homes and jobs, just like in the American Depression in the 1930s, which we have read about in Thoene's Shiloh books. In those days, in my homeland, Adolph Hitler was elected to power by promising 'Change'. He blamed the 'Zionists' around the world for all our problems. He told everyone it was greedy Zionist Bankers who had caused every problem we had. He promised when he was leader, the greedy Zionist bankers would be punished. The Zionists, he promised, would be wiped off the face of the earth. So Hitler was elected to power by only 1/3 the popular vote. A coalition of other political parties in parliament made him supreme leader. Then, when he was leader, he disgraced and expelled everyone in parliament who did not go along with him. Yes. Change came to my homeland as the new leader promised it would. The teachers in German schools began to teach the children to sing songs in praise of Hitler. This was the beginning of the Hitler Youth movement. It began with praise of the Fuhrer's programs on the lips of innocent children. Hymns in praise of Hitler and his programs were being sung in the schoolrooms and in the playyards. Little girls and boys joined hands and sang these songs as they walked home from school. My brother came home and told Papa what was happening at school. The political hymns of children proclaimed Change was coming to our homeland, and the Fuhrer was a leader we could trust. I will never forget my father's face. Grief and fear. He knew that the best propaganda of the Nazis was being sung on the lips of little children. Soon the children's songs praising the Fuhrer were heard everywhere on the streets and over the radio. "With our Fuhrer to lead us, we can do it! We can change the world!" Soon after that, Papa, a pastor, was turned away from visiting elderly parishioners in hospitals. The people he had come to bring comfort of God's Word, were 'no longer there'. Where had they vanished to while under the nationalized health care system? It became an open secret. The elderly and the sick began to disappear from hospitals feet first, as 'mercy killing' became the policy. Children with disabilities and those who had Down syndrome were euthanized. People whispered, "Maybe it is better for them now. Put them out of misery. They are no longer suffering. And, of course, their death is better for the treasury of our nation. Our taxes no longer must be spent to care for such a burden." And so murder came to be called 'mercy'. The government took over private business. Industry and health care were 'nationalized'. (NAZI means National Socialist Party) The businesses of all 'Zionists' (Jews) were seized. (Perhaps you remember about what happened in Berlin on 'Krystalnacht'.) The world and God's word were turned upside down. Hitler promised the people economic Change? Not change. What began with the propaganda of children singing a catchy tune, ended in the deaths of millions of men, women and children. The reality of what came upon us is so horrible that you in this present generation cannot imagine it. Our suffering was too great to ever tell in a book or show in a black and white newsreel. I trembled last night when I heard the voices of American children raised in song, praising the name of Obama, the charismatic fellow who claims he is the American Messiah. Yet I have heard what this man Obama says about abortion and the 'mercy killing' of tiny babies who are not wanted. There are so few of us left to warn you. I have heard that there are 69 million Catholics in America and 70 million Evangelical Christians. Where are your voices? Where is your outrage? Where is your passion and your vote? Do you vote based on an abortionist's empty promises and economics? Or do you vote according to the Bible? I have experienced the politics of Death in my youth. I see them again now. Christians, unless you stand up now, you will lose your freedom of religion. In America, priests and preachers have already lost their freedom to speak openly from their pulpits of the moral dangers in political candidates. They cannot legally instruct you on which candidate holds fast to the precepts of scripture! American law forbids this freedom of speech to conservative pastors, or they will lose their 'tax exempt' status. And yet I have heard the words of Obama's own pastor Damning America! I have heard the words of Obama damning and mocking all of you in small towns, because you "Cling to your religion." But, I am an old woman and will soon go to be with my Lord. I have no fear for myself, but for aall of you and for your children, I tremble. I tremble at the hymns to a political leaders which your children will sing at school, even though, at that same school a hymn or a prayer to God and to our Lord Jesus is against the law... moreResolved Question: Is this too much to ask for?

They wanted someone who knows advanced accounting formulas. I've taken a class in college (about 4 years ago) on the Microsoft Suite. I learned basic adding formulas, how to make charts, etc I've taken tests through staffing agencies that said that I was about average on excel. My boss also told the temp agency that I didn't know how to use word also. Yet I have never sent him a word doc. I've tested high in word, I have been using word since middle school, and I have a degree in Graphic Design, so I am comfortable using word, and it's basic features. I know that I am not a super admin pro at it that knows every little feature on it, plus for me I have higher advanced program knowledge of professional desktop software, so I use that. Unless I am just typing a plain letter or so. but I know how to adjust margins, word count, put on page numbers, turn into a web page.. etc anyways so now I'm afraid that they think that I misrepresented myself My resume never said anything about accounting. I've helped a small business, and myself as a freelancer keep track of invoices, payments, past dues, collections, and purchasing materials, but I have never used excel to keep track of sales, accounting etc. I have used excel to keep track of data, and have herd from past jobs that they really liked the way that I was able to create charts, and organize data in excel, and was very useful for the whole office to be on the same page. They want to do another test on on excel, (on my free time of course, which I have none with a family, freelance projects, etc) The temp agency gave me a tutorial. Most of it's pretty easy, except for in the end when it gets into advanced formulas. The tutorials doesn't really teach much except for steps to take. I need to know why, why did the makers of excel choose this program to be set up this way, what's the logic behind it,and I need to find some other advanced online places to learn these. I also am wondering if I should summon up my Transcripts from college to prove that I did take the course, and also to ask my old temp agency in my old town to dig up my testing records to send over. or would this be looked at as defensive behavior ? Why do they think that there advanced usage of excel is basic usage?I should add, that my background is Graphic Design, the job title is "Marketing Assistant", where my main role is doing graphics, flyers, brochures, catalogs, marketing campaigns, product photography, website updating and maintenance, the only excel docs I see are price sheets, which I import into Indesign ( easy) and some customer / distributors contact list. but they are asking for some pretty intense Graphic Design skills, and I don't know too many that have HR/accounting background and a Graphic Design background. moreResolved Question: WHERE CAN I SAFELY FIND AN EDITING PROGRAM FOR FREE?

I am located in the US, I have a business license and pay WAY TOO MUCH in taxes for a few websites that I own. I am wondering if I were to just get a regular job, and link my small websites to my personal account, would that be legal or do I still have to have a business license stating I am self employed? Because I think that the business license is more for old school type businesses where I have a building and staff and products being shipped. My services are mainly programming and advertising online that I do by myself, and I only make $20k per year but have to pay $6000 in taxes due to being "self employed". I am thinking about working a regular job and just running my sites on the side like normal people so I can pay normal taxes. Do you know if this is ok? Please only reply if you know the correct answer for a fact. Thanks. moreResolved Question: i need a computer program to make repair tickets in my shop. any suggestions?

I manage a small dance-wear retail store, and we've been trying to figure out how to create an online store to supplement our regular sales. We have a website that is maintained by another company that I do not have access to editing or maintaining. I do have the ability to maintain a website, however, and I would specifically prefer to have the ability to maintain our online store for inventory and customer service purposes. Have you ever created an online store for your own business? Do you have experience working with any software, programs or hosting sites that create good online stores that you can recommend? We use Quick Books Point of Sale software, and I'm curious to know if there's any way to integrate that inventory system with the inventory system of our online store. Do you have any knowledge of Quick Books having an online store software system? Do you have any good or bad experiences with it? We have a business paypal account from a brief period of trying to sell items on eBay, which we gave up on for several reasons. Our financial resources are fairly limited, and my time is extremely valuable and limited as well, so slightly lower-cost options that would ideally take less than a month of set-up time would be ideal. However, I'm open to any suggestions and insight that anyone has! Thank you! moreResolved Question: A few questions about computer repair "business"?
A friend (25) and I (20) are thinking about starting to repair and upgrade computers on a more organized level. We have both been fixing computers for friends and family for years, and think that it would be fun to print business cards and try to see how far a small "business" like this would take us. The situation seems like it would not really be a business, but for lack of a better term I am calling it that. We would print some business cards and attempt to bring in customers by being professional, fast, and less expensive than the large institutions (geek squad). We won't have a store, but instead we would pick up computers and bring them back to fix in a workshop area in my basement. If needed, we would also make house calls for virus removal, etc. My questions are: 1) What would we have to do legally to allow us to do something like this? We are in Minnesota. (permits, insurance, taxes) 2) Is it illegal to use free programs such as Spybot for this purpose? (Spybot is an anti-spyware program) 3) Would it seem very unprofessional if we had a phone line that was rarely answered? We both have jobs and school, so most of the time we would work off the messages that people leave. Neither of us are expecting this to be very profitable, but it is an idea that we want to explore. We have the tools for most basic repairs, so the start up investment lies only with business cards, permits, and insurance.
